| MAGDRL's
Board of Directors - Legislative Director
Jennifer Payne
Location: New Jersey
Rescue Experience: I came to MAGDRL in July of 2006 and jumped in with both feet. I grew up with a Great Dane in our home and have always had love and admiration for the breed. Since coming on board, my daughter and I have opened our home to several fosters which is by far the most rewarding experience I have ever known. Besides fostering I have also handled doing dog evaluations, home checks, transports as well as participating in Meet & Greets and other fund raising activities. I have been blessed with the responsibility of being named the NJ Turn In & Shelter Coordinator as well as most recently becoming the Foster Coordinator for New Jersey. I am currently working hard to try and build a strong network for our NJ foster homes so that they have all the resources available to them at their fingertips. I would like to increase the number of foster homes we currently have so that no Dane ever has to wait to come into MAGDRL. I have also reached out to shelters whom have had Danes in their facilities and have worked very hard to build a relationship with them while bringing each Dane into rescue. I am hoping to make MAGDRL known throughout every shelter in the state so that any Dane that should need to be rehomed has MAGDRL as their first line of defense and hopefully they will never have to spend one single night in a shelter.
Special Skills: I worked for over 2 years in a law firm which handles mostly contractual law. I am confident that the knowledge I obtained through my position there and through my education will enable me to properly research and review pending legislation and current dog laws throughout each area MAGDRL covers and across the states. I also was Pre-Vet at Rutgers as well as working for a large veterinary hospital as a Vet-Tech for 4 years. I also worked along side a well known Canine Behaviorist / Trainer for 6 years and since that time have worked on my own dealing with obedience training, problem solving and behavioral issues for clients. I believe my extensive experience with not only the medical side but the behavioral end have really allowed me to make a difference and be a stronger part of MAGDRL and enables me to do more for the breed.
Motto: Leap. The net will appear.
Vision for MAGDRL: I am looking to research pending legislation and act accordingly to educate and protect not only MAGDRL and the Danes we work so hard to bring to safety, but all dog owners. The best line of defense is a good offense ~ and that takes work! Fulfilling this vision is not an easy task and not one that can be taken lightly. This requires someone who is willing to go the extra mile to make sure we are aware of and notified of any potential laws & litigation that may impact our organization. I am no stranger to hard work and look forward to putting my all into this.
